Just a Flower

Just a flower.

These cookies were inspired by stickers. I even made up a tutorial to go with them!

Yellow flower

So. You wanna know how I made this pretty yellow cookie?

Gather up:

- Iced (mine is iced with white royal icing) and dried cookie

- Airbrush with pearl sheen color (optional)

- Space heater

- Detail consistency royal icing in yellow, white, blue, teal, green and purple

- Paint brush

- Silver luster dust OR pearl sheen airbrush color

Let's start with the inspiration. My idea for these cookies came from a set of stickers that I found at Walmart. I've had them in my 'idea' folder for quite some time. Just had not gotten around to making the cookies...

Inspiration stickers

Now, I'm sure that some of you are wondering why I've called this set "Just a flower". I totally built up the story just to get you over here. ;)

I was going to use my Kopykake for this project. Even wrote it down on the 'gather up' list. But when I started working on the first set of petals, I just freehanded them. You know why? It's a flower. Petals are imperfect. Flowers are imperfectly perfect. Freehand them. They don't need to be perfect. It's just a flower.

You like that, don't you?!

Me too.

Back to the tutorial!

Step 1: Start with an iced cookie that has been allowed to dry. I sprayed these cookies with a pearl sheen. Giving them a bit of sparkle. Keep in mind, this step is optional.

Step 1

Step 2: Add the first set of petals. I did these cookies in stages, allowing them to sit in front of a space heater. This will help minimize craters. Also, using the right consistency icing will also help. You want to use a detail consistency - Which means stiffer than 20 second icing!

Step 2

Step 3: Add the second set of petals. Allow it to sit in front of the space heater.

Step 3

Step 4: Add the tiny accent petals. Allow to sit in front of a space heater.

Step 4

Step 5: The center of the flower is 2 colors - just wet on wet. I also added the line down the center of the petal. Again - put it in front of the heater!

Step 5

Step 6: Add the white details. And then guess what? Yep. Space heater.

Step 6

Step 7: Let's bling this cookie up a bit. Paint on some silver luster dust (using an extract or vodka) or use your pearl sheen. I used pearl sheen on these. The consistency from the bottle is perfect for painting. It's hard to capture on a photo but trust me, it was pretty!

Step 7

And there you have it! 'Just a flower' cookies! Just an an FYI - The cookie cutter is from Truly Mad Plastics and the other cookie that you see in the photo below was on a cutter from Whisked Away Cookie Cutters.

Quoting Melissa Joy:
OOOOoooooo, so pretty! Love the colors and the sheen! So is the "pearl sheen" the bottle of stuff for your airbrush machine? Where do you get it from?

Yes! Use it right out of the bottle. I order mine from Amazon! :)
